How the AWARE website handles personal data, and your rights.

This policy explains which personal data the AWARE website collects, why, and what rights you have. We collect as little as possible.

Who is responsible

The website aware.hmu.gr is operated by the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), which leads the dissemination and exploitation activities of the AWARE project (WP6), on behalf of the project consortium coordinated by Università Niccolò Cusano. HMU is the data controller for the personal data processed through this website.

Responsibility for content

The content of this website expresses the views of the AWARE consortium and of the authors of each item. It does not represent official positions of the Hellenic Mediterranean University or of any other partner institution, of the European Union or of the funding organisations.

What we collect and why

When you visit the website

The web server and its security software process your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, in order to deliver the pages and to protect the site against attacks. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). These records are kept on HMU’s servers and deleted after a limited period.

Statistics (only with your consent)

If you accept statistics cookies in the consent banner, we use Google Analytics, provided by Google Ireland Limited, to count visits and see which pages are read. Google may process these data in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Without your consent, no statistics are collected and no request is sent to Google. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time through the consent settings.

Contact form

When you write to us, we receive your name, email address, organisation (optional) and message, and use them only to answer you. If your question concerns a specific partner of the consortium, we forward it to that partner. Messages are kept for as long as needed to deal with your request. The legal basis is your consent, which you give when you send the form.

Newsletter

If you subscribe to the newsletter, we store your email address and preferred language on the website’s server at HMU. You confirm your subscription by email, and you can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every newsletter, or ask us to delete your address. The data are not shared with any mailing service. The legal basis is your consent.

Cookies

The website uses a few cookies that are needed for it to work, such as the cookie that remembers your language and the one that records your consent choice. Statistics cookies are set only after you accept them. Details are in the cookie policy.

Other services

  • The maps on the study cases and contact pages load map images from OpenStreetMap, which receives your IP address when a map is displayed.
  • Fonts and all other files are served from the website itself.
  • Links to LinkedIn, ResearchGate and other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data, to have them corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to their processing, to receive them in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time.

To exercise these rights, for example to have your data deleted, you can write to idaliak@hmu.gr or use the contact page. You can also contact the HMU Data Protection Officer at dpo@hmu.gr at any time.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (Kifisias 1–3, 115 23 Athens, www.dpa.gr (opens in a new tab)) or with the data protection authority of your own country.

Changes

We will update this policy when the website changes. Last updated: 4 October 2026.
