Waste

Anything a process puts out that has no value — or a negative value, meaning someone must be paid to take it away. The definition is economic, not physical: the same effluent is waste when discharged and a product when treated and sold for irrigation. That shift is the whole premise of water reuse, and it changes how an LCA treats the flow.
