Co-product and By-product

Outputs of the same process that each have value. A co-product is one of several outputs that justify running the process; a by-product is a secondary output that arises anyway — biogas from sludge digestion, struvite fertiliser recovered from wastewater. Whenever a system has more than one valuable output, the study has to decide how to share the impacts between them.
