Life Cycle Inventory Database

A curated collection of datasets describing common processes — electricity generation, chemical production, transport, waste treatment — that practitioners use to model the background of their systems. ecoinvent, maintained by a Swiss not-for-profit association, is the most widely used; the EU Environmental Footprint has its own datasets. Different databases can give noticeably different results for the same process, so the choice must be reported.
