Characterisation Factor
A number expressing how much a unit of a given flow contributes to an impact category, relative to a reference substance. In climate change, for example, 1 kg of methane is counted as roughly 27–30 kg CO₂ equivalent over 100 years. Characterisation factors come from scientific models, and the choice of LCIA method determines which factors are used.
