Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA)

The third phase of an LCA, which translates the inventory’s long list of flows into a short set of environmental impact indicators. Each flow is assigned to the impact categories it contributes to and multiplied by a characterisation factor, so that hundreds of emissions become, for example, one climate change figure in kg CO₂ equivalent.
