Monetary Valuation

Expressing environmental or social impacts in money so they can be weighed directly against financial costs. Common routes are willingness to pay (what people would give up to obtain an improvement), damage costs (what the harm actually costs, for example in healthcare), and abatement costs (what it would cost to avoid the harm). Results vary widely with the method chosen, so they are best reported alongside, not instead of, the physical indicators.
